U.S. Doubles Tariffs on China From 10% to 20%

In a significant policy move, the White House has announced an increase in tariffs on Chinese imports in response to the ongoing synthetic opioid crisis.


in accordance with the Executive Order (EO) "Further Amendment to Duties Addressing the Synthetic Opioid Supply Chain in the People’s Republic of China," signed on March 3, 2025. As mandated by the EO, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is raising the additional tariffs from 10% to 20% and introducing a new Chapter 99 HTSUS classification.




Update:

The 20% will not retroact to shipment prior to 03/04/2025


February 4 – March 3, 2025: 10% additional duty (HTSUS 9903.01.20).

March 4, 2025, onward: 20% additional duty (HTSUS 9903.01.24).
